Spain – a leading producer of Celery

Spain is one of Europe’s leading exporters of fresh celery, supplying supermarkets and foodservice operators across Europe throughout the winter and spring. Murcia is the main production region, with additional production in Valencia, Alicante, Navarra, and Castilla-La Mancha. The season starts in September and lasts until May, with limited availability during the summer season from cooler regions.

Varieties

 ( Sep — May)
Celery is sold mainly by stalk size and presentation, where whole celery accounts for the majority of exports. Spanish growers predominantly cultivate modern F1 hybrids selected for thick and uniform stalks, dark green colour, strong disease resistance, low stringiness and long shelf life. Main varieties are Kelvin F1, Monterey F1, Helios F1, Hadrian F1, Tall Utah Improved and Conquistador F1.
