Spain – a top supplier in Europe

Spain is one of Europe’s largest strawberry exporters, especially in winter–spring, with a very early and long strawberry season compared to other EU countries. The season starts in December and ends in June, with the main production area in Huelva and some production in Valencia and Catalonia. Strawberries have a bright red colour, sweet to sweet-acid flavour and juicy texture.

Varieties

Early-season  (Dec — Feb)

Early season with moderate sweetness, good colour, medium-large fruit. Varieties like Fortuna, Rociera and Primoris.

Mid-season  (Feb — Apr)

Core export window; good size and uniformity, better flavour (higher brix) and strong shelf life. Varieties like Rociera, Victory, Calinda (premium variety) and Sabrina.

Late-season  (Apr — Jun)

Maintains firmness, although slightly softer than during peak season. Varieties like Marisma, Rábida and Inspirada.
