Spain – a top supplier in Europe
A round-shaped melon with a netted rind (like cantaloupe) and green to light green flesh. The skin turns yellow/golden when ripe and the taste is strong and sweet with high sugar level.
Spain is one of Europe’s main Galia suppliers in summer. Main regions of production in Andalucía (early season), Murcia (early and mid-season), and Castilla-La Mancha (mid-late season).
Varieties
Early-season (Apr — May)
Produced in Almería. Moderate brix (9-11°), medium size (cal 6-8), good external appearance and good firmness for transport.
Mid-season (Jun — Jul)
From core export region Murcia. Best balance of quality and volume, higher brix (11-13°), strong aroma, good netting and golden colour.
Late-season (Jul — Sep)
Produced in Castilla-La Mancha. Slightly firmer flesh, good shelf life, less aromatic than peak season.
