Artichoke

October — May

Spain – a leading producer of Artichoke

Spain is the second-largest artichoke producer in the world (after Italy) and the leading exporter within Europe. Production is concentrated in Murcia (over 40% of national production), followed by the Valencian Community, Navarra, and Catalonia. The season starts in October and lasts until May, although limited production can be available until June. The main export season is November to April.

Varieties

 ( Oct — May)
Blanca de Tudela is the most important traditional variety, but the modern F1 hybrids such as Green Queen F1, Opera F1, Symphony F1, Madrigal F1 and Harmony F1, are increasingly preferred by exporters because they deliver greater uniformity, higher productivity, and longer shelf life.
