Fresh Produce Supply Spain
Romanesco
October — May
A specialty cauliflower crop in Spain
Romanesco is a specialty cauliflower crop in Spain with distinctive spiral florets, lime green colour and mild, nutty flavour. A premium retail product. While volumes are much smaller than white cauliflower or broccoli, Spain is one of Europe’s main suppliers during the winter season, with production concentrated in Navarra, Murcia, La Rioja and the Ebro Valley. The season starts in October and lasts until March, although small volumes can be available from April to August.
Varieties
( Oct — May)
Romanesco has relatively few commercial varieties. Most production is based on F1 hybrids developed for the fresh export market, offering better uniformity, head shape, and shelf life.
