Pak Choi

September — May

A growing export crop in Spain

Pak choi is a niche but rapidly growing export vegetable in Spain. Production has expanded due to increasing demand from European supermarkets, Asian retailers, and foodservice. Production is concentrated in Murcia, Almería, Valencia, and Navarra. The season starts in September and lasts until May, with limited availability during the summer season from cooler regions.

Varieties

 ( Sep — May)
Pak choi is marketed by type and size, rather than by variety. The standard green and baby types account for the majority of exports. Spanish growers use F1 hybrids selected for uniformity, fast growth, and shelf life, with varieties like Joi Choi F1, White Flash F1, Green Flash F1, Win-Win F1, Bopak F1, Mei Qing Choi and Shanghai Green F1.
